Doris Beck

Doris Curry Lanning Beck, of Marion, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville.  Her loving family was by her side.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born January 08, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Stralie and Lula Dayberry Curry.

She was preceded in death by first husband, John J. Lanning; second husband, John W. Beck; two grandchildren, and two sisters, Geraldine Turner and Floye Mae Curry.

Having retired from East Marion Manufacturing, Doris also worked as a custodian at East McDowell Junior High School; and became a cashier at the Quality Plus on Rutherford Road.  A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Miss Doris enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, working in her flowers, reading and collecting cookie jars.  She loved traveling to the beach with her family, shopping and yard sales.  She attended Faith Baptist Church.

Doris is survived by six children, Edward “Eddie” Lanning (Louella), Jackie Westmoreland (Guy), Teri McNeely (Bruce), Lori Edwards, Lisa Lanning and Susan Mills; one brother, Bill Curry; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service to honor the life of Doris will be held on Saturday, August 05, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Harold Webb and Rev. Ron Carpenter officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
