Donald Eugene Silver

Donald Eugene Silver, age 57, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 11, 2016 at his residence.  Born in Vancouver, Washington on February 16, 1959, he was the son of the late J. Lee Silver and Dorothy Patton Bowlby.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Tom Silver.

A loving husband, father and brother, Donald was a NASCAR fan and in his spare time, enjoyed fishing, bowling and skating.  Following 15 years of service, he retired as a Correctional Officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Marion Institution.  Prior to working for Marion Corrections, he worked for several years pouring concrete with Larry Newton.  Donald was a veteran of the United States Army.

Left to cherish his memory, loving wife and best friend of 17 years, Cynthia Lea Deal Silver; one daughter, Amanda Lynn Fortune; one son, Brian Michael Silver; siblings, Robert “Bud” Silver, Debra Silver, Larry “Butch” Silver (Becky) and Beverly Anderson (Mark).  He is also survived by one grandchild, expected in October; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Pinnacle Baptist Church with Revs. Walker Toney, Pete McCombs, Mark Hollifield and Kenny Hilliard officiating.  Interment, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety- Adult Corrections, will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
