On the evening of Thursday, September 15, 2016, Donald Ray Anderson, age 68, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly at his residence. Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on July 17, 1948, he was the son of the late Clarence “Tuck” Anderson and Edith Deaton.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and having served in Vietnam, Don was a member and former Captain with the Marion Fire Department and enjoyed serving the citizens of McDowell and Rutherford Counties as a certified paramedic. After 16 years, Don retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Anderson; and one sister, Patti Walker.
Don is survived by one daughter, Wendy Anderson (Nelon); one brother, Terry Deaton; one sister, Kim Rhyne; three grandchildren, Olivia Conner (Branson), Thomas Anderson and Jeremiah Bennett. He is also survived by his former spouse, Delores Carver (Buck); and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Clinchfield Baptist Church in Marion with Rev. Gary Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
A committal service, with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps, will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Rev. Harold Webb officiating.
