Donald Elmer Camp, age 78, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 05, 2021 at his residence. The son of Doris Lumsden Camp of Douglasville, Georgia and the late Nathan Camp, Jr., he was born in Cobb County, Georgia on December 11, 1942.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Camp and Stanley Camp.
An avid reader and gardener, Donald enjoyed traveling and was able to visit 48 states. A loving husband, father, grandfather, he had retired from CSX Railroad. Donald attended Gray’s Creek Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.
He is survived by, in addition to his mother, his loving wife of 58 years, Jewell Fortner Camp; and three children, Audrey Albright (Mike), Joy Shockey (Jonathan) and Pamela Camp Oakes (Lee). Donald is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Susanna Albright, Lainey Albright, Savannah Shockey, Landen Shockey, Joshua Oakes, Caleb Oakes (Robin), Samuel Oakes, Kaylee Oakes, Maacah Oakes, Bekah Oakes, Rachel Oakes, Isaiah Oakes, Silas Oakes and Sawyer Oakes.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Gray’s Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Brian Ezell and Alvin Hunnicutt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
Those who are attending the services are encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
