Donald "Butch" Nunnally

On Thursday, February 06, 2020, while surrounded by his loved ones, Mr. Donald “Butch” Nunnally, age 77, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville.  A native of McDowell County, Butch was born on May 13, 1942 and was the son of Madeline Davis Nunnally of Marion and the late Charles Otto Nunnally. 

A member of Garden Creek Baptist Church in Marion, Butch was a fan of the Atlanta Braves.  He graduated from Pleasant Gardens High School where he was a pitcher with the baseball team; and held an associate’s degree from McDowell Tech.  An avid gardener, he enjoyed bowling and writing short stories, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Butch was a veteran of the United States Army. 

He is survived by, in addition to his mother, his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Nunnally of the home; two sons, Jeff Nunnally of Marion and Shaun Nunnally of the home; one brother, Steve Nunnally (Kathy) of Marion; one sister, Julia Nunnally Duncan (Steve) of Marion; one granddaughter, Jada Nix; two nieces, Annie Duncan and Mitzi Nunnally; and one nephew, Matthew Nunnally.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Fred Proctor officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park with military honors provided by the United States Army.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
