Dixie Proctor

On the morning of Monday, July 6, 2020, Mrs. Dixie McKinney Proctor, age 73, of Rutherfordton, crossed over from this life into eternal life with Christ at Rutherford Regional Hospital. The daughter of the late Herbert McKinney and Mary Clara Taylor Linstrom, she was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, on June 20, 1947.

Dixie was a lover of time outdoors, gardening, horses, and music. Some of her fondest “growing up” memories were spent making music with her siblings. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer but found her greatest calling to be investing in her children at home. In more recent years, as a master gardener—she spent time tending her organic blueberry patch, and as a granny—she cherished her moments with the little ones. Dixie loved the Lord and is now in His presence, free from all pain and sorrow.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Herbert McKinney. She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories her beloved husband of fifty-five years—Bennie Proctor; three children—Lynda Johnston (Brian), Leah Pratt (Michael), and Laura “Lars” Haseltine (Ben); and her siblings—brother Michael McKinney (Claudia) and sister Patricia Cassida (Don). She also leaves behind six grandchildren—Toney Johnston (Tayler) and the Haseltines: Dade Paul, Elloree Adele, Alana Dixie, Meridian Ciel, and Brannen Wallace.

A private, family memorial service will be held at a later date.
