Dillard Hoover Payne, age 90, of Marion, North Carolina passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the SECU House of Hospice of Rutherford County.
Mr. Payne was born February 25, 1928 in Madison County to the late James Frank Payne and Ettie Sluder Payne. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1980 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was an ordained Deacon for 57 years. He was a man of faith who truly loved the Lord. Mr. Payne fostered many children over the years and was given an award for the work he had done with foster children. He had a passion for blue grass music and could play any instrument with strings.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jones Payne; five brothers and three sisters. What a reunion is going on in Heaven! The Payne Quartet is now complete, playing and singing with brand new voices!
Left behind to cherish Mr. Payne’s memories are two children, Billy Payne (Whitney) and Bobbi Griffin-Park (Alan); one grandson, Scott Griffin (Tonia); two great-grandchildren, M.J. Griffin and Jax Griffin; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Payne and Doris Parker; one brother-in-law, Arnold Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Beam Funeral Service. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Leo Kuykendall officiating. Interment will follow the service at Payne’s Chapel Church Cemetery in Madison County, NC.
