Debi Cox Mills, age 50, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville following a 2-year battle with cancer. Born in Pender County, North Carolina on October 25, 1967, she was the daughter of Carolyn Hensley and David Cox, both of Marion.
A wonderful “mama”, daughter, sister and “dee dee”, Debi was a mother figure to many and treated all as if they were her own children. She loved to watch wrestling and to listen to a variety of music. Debi was active in animal advocacy and enjoyed being around her dogs.
Debi is survived by, in addition to her parents, her fiancé, Tracy Clontz; two daughters, Leigh Mills (Dwight) and Carrie Mills; seven grandchildren, Michael, Gary, Donavan, Brandon, Cici, Nicholas and Carter; one sister, Susie Roberts (John); four step children, Samantha Clontz, Josh Clontz, Rodney Clontz and Stephanie Clontz; one niece, Paige (Caleb); and three nephews, Alex, Cody and Owen.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 339 South Main Street in Marion.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Debi’s memory are asked to consider, Mercy Fund Animal Rescue, which she and Tracy volunteered at, P.O. Box 2371, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
