David Ray Smith

David Ray Smith, age 54, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 5, 2019 at his residence.  Born in Modesto, California on March 23, 1965, he was the son of the late James and Wilma Henson Smith. 

David was known as having been a wonderful craftsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all, loved being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his partner of 22 years, Linda Effler; one daughter, Rachel Gregory (Rodney); one son, Zechariah Smith (Kristen); five siblings, Bobby Henson (Irene), Jean Ritneick, Joyce Ann Hall, Richard Smith (Teresa) and Barbara Pendley (Phillip).  David is also survived by three grandchildren, Dallas, Emma and Athena; best friends, Wayne Troutman and Lisa Payne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Bryant-Gibbs Cemetery in Yancey County with Mr. Jason King officiating.
