David was born on August 27, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia; and passed away suddenly at the age of 58 on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at his home in Marion, North Carolina. He grew up in Madison, Alabama and was a graduate of Randolph High School. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He began his career at Procter & Gamble in Memphis, Tennessee and retired as a senior research scientist in Cincinnati, Ohio after 33 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Oetjen, lll. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his mother, Betty (Bebe) Jarrell Oetjen; his sister Beth Pendleton (Kraig); his sister Ellen Gibbons (Billy); and three nephews, Kyle, Nick and Blake Pendleton.
David was known for his hearty laugh and a lover of sports. He was a hugger. He was upbeat and positive, never a complainer. He always had time for his friends and family and made everyone feel special. P & G furthered his love for travel and he made friends around the world. He loved the Bengals (unfortunately), NASCAR, and scuba diving. He and Wendy found their future retirement property in 2004 on Lake James in Marion, North Carolina, where they built a small cabin. David named the property “Dreams Landing”. They were in the process of building their final home when David passed.
A celebration of life will be held at his new home in Marion at a future date. Beam Funeral Service & Crematory will post the information at, www.beamfuneralservice.com.
