David Joe Leakey

David Joe Leakey, age 67, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at his residence with his loving family by his side.  Born in Kokomo, Indiana on August 15, 1948, he was the son of the late Robert M. Leakey and Martha Heath Leakey Soper. 

A man who enjoyed being with his animals, David forever cherished the love he had for his family.  He was a member of Landrum Church of God.

Just having celebrated their 23 year anniversary, David is survived by his wife, Terri Meredith Leakey; five children, David Leakey II (Kristen), Craig Leakey (Jennifer), Rebecca Leakey, James Mullins (Kay) and Rachel Mullins (Bryan Williams); three siblings, Sherry O’Hara, Charles Soper and Jackie Springer; seventeen grandchildren, Alexsis, Sklyer, Caleb, Christian, Kyle, Karlie, Austin, Brandon, Christopher, Gage, Hayley, Hunter, Candace, Natasha, Denver, Makayla and Gavin.  David is also survived by one niece, three nephews; and a special friend, Olga Curry and her family. 

In keeping with Mr. Leakey’s wishes, there will be no services held.

The Leakey family wishes to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Rutherford County for their exceptional care and compassion during David’s final days.
