Curtis Wilburn Cowart

Curtis Wilburn Cowart, age 85, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at his residence while under the care of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.  The son of the late Claude and Hettie Farmer Cowart, he was born in Macon County, North Carolina on December 14, 1934.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Cowart and Iralee Nunelly; and three brothers, Ralph Cowart, Roy Cowart and George Dockey Cowart.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he had served 10 ½ years and was a SSgt and served as a mechanic for the aircrafts.  Following his honorable discharge, Curtis worked for his brother, Ralph, at Cowart’s Construction where he was superintendent and drew blueprints for the company. Curtis loved spending time with his family, and was a member of First Christian Church of Marion. 

Mr. Cowart is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Belinda McCall Cowart; four children, Douglas Wilham Cowart, David Lee Cowart, Pamela Robina Jaeger and Robert Scott Cowart; one step son, Dwayne Edward McCall; two sisters, Dot Anthony and Sue Lankford (Gilbert French); one brother, Claude Cowart, Jr.; and three half-sisters, Margaret Hawk, Diane McDowell and Bernice Woodard. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Bryan Jaeger, Tyler Messer, Brady Messer, Jessica Carter, Jacke Mulleenix, Suzan McCall, Emily McCall, Paisley Cowart, Colt Dillon, Cameron, Stefanie Lemonda and Dusty Shirley; and many great grandchildren. 

In keeping with Mr. Cowart’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
