Coy Fender, 93, of Marion, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
He was born in Burnsville on October 29, 1929 to the late George Allen Fender and Winnie Emmaline Bailey Fender. His wife, Helen Lucille Greer Fender, and his siblings, Clay Fender, Ray Fender, and Mae Fender Miller, also precede him in death.
Coy was a member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed worshipping the Lord there with his church family. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Following his service, he began working at Coats America where he stayed for 49 years. He was a hard worker his whole life and instilled these values in his family. Coy enjoyed farming and gardening. He was also known to help his neighbors out in any way he could. He was an avid fan of UNC basketball and the Atlanta Braves. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by son, Michael Fender (Barbara Ward); daughter, Sharon Wilson (Mike); granddaughter, Ashley Turner (Kelvin); two great grandchildren, Corben and Nora Turner; and sister-in-law, Georgia Greer.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m., thirty minutes prior to the service.
