Mr. Clyde McKinney, Jr., age 69, of the Pleasant Gardens Community, departed to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 06, 2020 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. The son of the late Clyde and Ida Burnette McKinney, he was born in Marion, North Carolina on September 24, 1951.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Long McKinney, who passed away on June 23, 2017.
A man of many talents, Clyde enjoyed wood carving, black smithing, fishing, hunting and building boats. At an early age he would train horses; and having a special place in his heart for dogs, he was a jack russell terrier breeder. Up until Clyde’s health began to decline, he loved to ride his motorcycle, especially along NC 80. One thing that was special to Clyde was his loving wife Vicki, and he made sure her needs were met and was an amazing caregiver to her for many years.
He is survived by one son, Jason McKinney and his wife, Lacey; two amazing grandchildren, Lily and James McKinney; one sister, Linda Thorneburg and her husband, Bobby; uncle, Ralph McKinney; uncle, Kenneth Burnette; a good friend, Robert Loudermilk; and his canine buddy, Abby.
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Webb officiating. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, those attending the service are encouraged to wear a mask and observe safe distancing.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. McKinney’s memory are asked to consider, Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, 4089 US Highway 70 West, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
