Clarence Lyle Holtsclaw, while surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at his residence in Marion. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born April 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Goler and Irene Clontz Holtsclaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lyle Holtsclaw; and two brothers, James Holtsclaw and Jerry Holtsclaw.
Clarence, who was a Carolina Tar Heels and New York Yankees fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR, but he took great pride in maintaining his yard. Following several years, he retired from ABF Freight as a long-haul driver. Clarence was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Holtsclaw; three daughters, Pamela Corpening, Vicky Holtsclaw and Tina Marsh (Mike); ten grandchildren, Shauna McCurry Holmes, Nick McCurry, Amber McCauley Brown, Autumn McCauley Grant, Laurel McKinney Marsh, Lucas Marsh, Tori Corpening, Tara Corpening, Joshua Corpening and Anna Corpening; and ten great grandchildren, Jackson Holmes, Hudson Holmes, Lydia McCauley, Sydney Strode, Vincent Smith, Paris Forney, Presley Forney, London Grant, Lukah Grant and Harper Marsh. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, David Vance.
A service to celebrate the life of Clarence will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
