Clarence Ballew, 83, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at his residence.
He was born in Yancey County on March 02, 1939 to the late Horace Ballew and Hattie Autrey Ballew.
Clarence worked at Old Fort Finishing for 20 years and later retired from Collins and Aikman. He also helped with the construction of the 30-foot tower built on Mount Mitchell in 1962. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Edwards Ballew; and two siblings, Charles Ballew and Mary Burnette.
He is survived by three children, Mike Ballew (Tammy), Marvin Ballew (Angela), and Jim Ballew (Roberta); nine grandchildren, Matthew Ballew, Ben Ballew (Chloe), Breanna Ballew, Chase Ballew, Brittany Robinson (Nick), Chelsie Arrowood (Tristan), Ryan Langdon, Katelyn Holmes (Isaiah), and Emily Register (Kyle Chapman); several great grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Sherrill.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Patton Cemetery in Burnsville.
