Clara Smith

Clara Oakes Smith, age 83, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.  A native of Avery County, North Carolina, born May 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Maude Johnson Oakes. 

A loving mother, grandmother and sister that will be greatly missed, Clara was a member of Setzer’s Creek Baptist Church where she loved to go and study scriptures.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mitchell Smith, Jr.

She is survived by her three children, Keith Smith (Karen), Grant Smith and Sandra Libera; three siblings, Jack Oakes (Jenny), Virginia McPeters and Bud Oakes; three grandchildren, Steven, Jason and Mitch Libera; and two great grandchildren, Dawson and Katie Libera.  

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Johnson Cemetery in Newland with Rev. Bruce Cornett officiating.
