Clara Lue Jenkins Briggs, 75, of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Memorial Campus.
Clara was born in Marion, North Carolina on August 30, 1946 to the late Alonzo “Buster” Jenkins and Evelyn Fender Jenkins. She graduated from Old Fort High School in 1964. Clara retired from Duncans Shoe House following thirty years of dedicated service. She was an avid painter along with other talents of sewing, quilting and cooking. Clara was a loving wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Viola Briggs, father-in-law Rev. David Briggs, sister-in-law’s Annie Mae Briggs Allison, Mary Magdalene Briggs Nunnally and brother-in-law Butch Nunnally.
Clara is survived by her husband, Matthew Briggs; brother Louis Jenkins (Debbie); sister Shirley J. Waldrop (Joe); brother-in-law’s Charles Briggs (Barbara) and Carl Allison; nieces and nephews, Lindy Jenkins, Caylea Jenkins, Crystal Allison, Cheryl Allison Birch (Jesse), Jeffrey Nunnally (Tonia), Shawn Nunnally, Amy Briggs Band (Phillip), Leighann Briggs Ayers (Jeff); great nephews, Ian Briggs Gilliam, Kellen Lindsay, Darren Jones, Michael Jones, Dylan Jones and many loving friends and cousins.
A private gathering of family will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family request any donations be made to the McDowell County Senior Center at 100 Spaulding Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752 or a charity of your choice in her memory.
