Christy Carpenter

    Christy Lynn Carpenter, age 64, died Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Autumn Care of Marion with Carepartners Hospice of McDowell. She was born February 8, 1958 to the late J.W. and JoAnne “Pat” Reavis Carpenter of the North Cove community. Later in life she moved to Marion, but always considered herself a “cove girl” at heart.

    Christy fiercely fought cancer twice. First diagnosed in 2000 she beat it and was in remission. In 2011, metastatic cancer returned forcing her to retire from Baxter Healthcare. Christy was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in North Cove where she was a faithful member of the Susie Parks’ Sunday school class and served as secretary for the United Methodist Women for several years. 

   Christy loved all things Scottish and especially enjoyed camping at Grandfather Mountain for the Highland Games clan gatherings. She was able to travel to Scotland and experience the beauty and culture of her ancestors. She had a green thumb and eagerly anticipated her yearly trips to Painter’s Greenhouse and Lowes nursery for plants and flowers to add to her porch and yard. She appreciated the calm found by a mountain stream, the companionship of her loyal pets, being immersed in a good book, classic rock music and making a fashion statement with her jewelry.

    Christy is survived by her son, Steve Wright; her daughter, Kim Wright (Jose Leon); brother, Tim Carpenter and her granddaughters, Maria and Cara Leon-Wright, who meant the world to her, all of Marion, NC. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her stepmother, Sandra Lytle Carpenter of Old Fort; aunt, Lana Hix Reavis of Morganton, former husband, Darrell Wright (Barby)of North Cove, her extended family, her church family and a sisterhood of girlfriends whom she dearly loved.

     A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Concord United Methodist Church with interment in the church’s columbarium. Her family will receive friends Friday, August 26, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.
