Christopher "Topher" Rodier, age 51, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on June 3, 2023. While he was born in Burlington, Vermont, he was quickly embraced by every Southerner he met after arriving in Marion in 1981. Topher graduated from McDowell High School, Class of 1990. Afterwards, he took classes at McDowell Technical Community College, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and the University of North Carolina Asheville. From an early age, he began his lifelong passion for building friendships and learning from everyone he met. To know Toph was to love him. After high school, Topher embarked on a vibrant journey, navigating through a diverse range of professions, all while weaving deep connections as a socialite – Topher never met a stranger. He was never afraid to work and help people whether it was supporting them through tough times or celebrating their successes. Toph spent many years working in restaurants and lending his building talents to projects throughout Western North Carolina as well as anywhere friends needed support in a project. For fun, he liked to test his trivia knowledge anywhere in Asheville. He would attend as many of his son’s baseball and basketball games or golf tournaments as possible.. Whether graduations or birthdays, he would never miss one for his friends or family if he was able to get there. As everyone knows, Toph’s attendance with you also created a musical soundtrack either through his whistling, his portable speaker, or both. His energy always elevated everyone's experience and fun. His many friends will remember him for his contagious laugh, charming nature, and vivacious spirit.
Topher is preceded in death by his mother, Sally. Surviving are his awesome, supporting, loving father and daily partner for the last 20 years, Robert Sr. (Paula), and his pride and joy, his son, Owen (Spartanburg). He also leaves his brother Robert Jr.(Caroline) and their children, Sadie and Frances; his brother Tyler (Amber) and their children, Taylor and Bryson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration in honor of Topher will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at The Spillway Bridge & Co. in Marion from 5 – 8 pm.In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to his son Owen's college fund using Venmo. All proceeds will go into an account for his education. Send to @Robert-Rodier. Or send checks to Tyler Rodier, 249 Mackey's Farm Dr, Old Fort, NC 28762.
