Christopher "Chris" Scott Childres

The family of Christopher "Chris" Scott Childres regretfully wishes to inform everyone there will be a change in the date of visitation and funeral service. Due to immediate family, stranded in inclement weather out of state the services will now be held on Monday April 16, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at New Manna Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family also wishes to extend apologies for any inconveniences this may cause, and desires your prayers during this difficult time.

Christopher “Chris” Scott Childres, age 49, loving father, son, brother and friend, went home to be with the Lord and to join his dad on the morning of Wednesday, April 11, 2018.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born March 5, 1969, he was the son of Juanita Childres of Nebo and the late Gary Michael Childres. 

A loving and caring man, Chris was a 1988 graduate of McDowell High and was a member of the Marion Lake Club where he was an avid golfer.  He was currently employed with Asheville Gastroenterology Associates as a Research Coordinator and was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a medic.  Chris will be remembered for the love and care of others, but especially his three kids and his family. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his three wonderful children, Ryan Childres, Nicholas Childres and Carli Childres; one sister, Vickie Freshour and her husband, Harley; one nephew, Harley Freshour II; and many close aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

A service to celebrate the life of Chris will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at New Manna Baptist Church, 245 East Court Street, Marion, North Carolina with Pastor Tony Shirley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church.
