Cheri Ann Burns, 74 of Black Mountain, NC, peacefully went to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Cheri was born on Oct 24, 1950, in Leesville, Louisiana, to Overton B. Burns, Sr. and Jimmie Goldia Britt Burns. She was raised in Vernon Parish, surrounded by a large, close-knit family that helped shape the deep faith she carried throughout her life.
Cheri was known for her commitment to helping others and using her voice to make a difference in the lives of those who needed it most. One of her proudest professional achievements was directing a Children's Advocacy Center in the New Orleans area, where she devoted herself to providing support and protection to vulnerable children. As one of her colleagues shared, Cheri "probably didn’t realize what a difference she made to so many children that needed help," a testament to the impact she had on countless lives. In her later years, Cheri continued her advocacy work, focusing on supporting those with disabilities. Her legacy of compassion and dedication will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
As her health declined from a lengthy battle with cancer, Cheri moved to Black Mountain, NC to spend her last few years with family. Cheri found happiness in the simplest pleasures, sharing her faith with others, sharing meals with family, and playing games and doing art projects with her granddaughter, Addison. Cheri's greatest pride came from being a grandmother, a role that brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life. She will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Cheri is preceded in death by her sisters Barbara Celiz and Ellen Mount, and brother Overton B. Burns, Jr.
Cheri is survived by her son Joe Holloway (Laura Hill) and granddaughter Addison Holloway of Black Mountain, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.
