Charles Eugene Nichols, Sr.

February 4, 1941 — May 27, 2017

 

 

Charles “Jamup” E. Nichols, Sr., age 76, entered heaven’s gates into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at John F. Keever Solace Center after several years of declining health. 

A native of McDowell County, Gene was born to the late Natalie B. Davis and her husband, Robert W. Davis on February 4, 1941.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janet P. Nichols, a son, Charles “Chuck” E. Nichols, Jr., a brother-in-law, Tom Carr and a nephew, Mike Carr.

Gene is survived his wife of 30 years, Vickie Nichols; his children, Danny Nichols (Donna), Robby Nichols, Wayne Nichols (Lynette), Kim Nichols, Tina Nichols,  Lori Nichols, Randy Powell (Stephanie); a sister, Ann Carr; grandchildren, Hope Bailey (Kyle), Trish Nichols, Casey Nichols (Kayla), Halley Mills, Brent Nichols, Benjamin Nichols, Victoria Bowen (Dylan), Amanda Powell, Garrett Powell, Blake Nichols, Bethany Nichols; greatgrandchildren Layla Dugger, Malaia Mills, Brian Burris, Jr., Adalin Bailey, Alivia Mills, Sadie Nichols, Sophia Nichols; a nephew, Marshall Carr and a niece, Ryleigh Carr.

Known by his family members as Gene, he was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Glen Alpine and was a former truck driver for Coats America.  Gene also served as a volunteer fireman with Nebo Fire Department and coached baseball for Nebo Youth Activities.  He was a Duke fan, enjoyed gospel music and working around the house.

A funeral service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Terry Robinson, Rev. Doug St. John and Rev. Allen McKinney officiating.  Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
