Charles Lee "Bull" Durham

Charles Lee “Bull” Durham, age 91, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away and has gone to his heavenly home where he was reunited with his family and friends on Tuesday, August 02, 2016 at Autumn Care of Marion.  Born on October 29, 1924 in the Ashford-North Cove Community of McDowell County, he was the son of the late William Homer and Vergie Mae Dennie Durham. 

A man who enjoyed traveling with his family, Charles, at the age of 79, continued to work at Drexel Heritage until it was closed.  He had a philosophy, “if something was worth doing; it was worth doing it right”.  A small man but larger than life, Charles was quiet, reserved and he spoke through his actions.  He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Marion.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Imogene Giles Durham, who passed away in 1996; three brothers, Lester, Bill and Carl “Snake” Durham; and his son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Leon Truitt.

Left to cherish his memories, one daughter, Jeanne Lee Truitt; one brother, Earl Durham; three grandchildren, Joshua Wells and his wife Hannah, Katie Truitt and Alea Truitt; his precious great-grandchildren, Lily Monosso and Winnie Wells; and a number of nieces and nephews, who were all special to him.  He is also survived by dear friend, Mildred VanDyke.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 07, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Revs. Jim Evans and Jonathan Gaylord officiating.  Interment will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
