Charles Ray Evans

Charles Ray Evans, age 65, of Marion, NC passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at SECU Hospice House in Forest City, NC.

Mr. Evans was born July 7, 1952 in McDowell County, NC to the late Gudger Thomas Evans, Sr. and Wilma Bryson Evans.  He worked for Sarah Lee and Universal until his health began to decline.  He was a lifetime member of North American Fishing Club, a member of the Marion Moose Lodge and was a volunteer for the Red Cross.  He enjoyed sports and coached and umpired for various teams throughout the years from little league to adults.  Mr. Evans was also an avid McDowell Titan fan and in the 40 years he became Papaw to many kids along the way.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Ray Evans, Jr.; two brothers, Frank and Tommy Evans; and a lifelong friend, Larry Kuykendall.

Left behind to cherish Mr. Evans’ memories are two children, Ishmal Evans and Christina Evans; four grandchildren, Allyssia Sky Evans, Michael Ray Evans, Andrew Max Cable and Jeremy Adam Cable; three brothers, Terry, Johnny and Lonnie Evans; a special friend, Alfred Kelley; and his beloved cat, Sammy.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory.  A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Ronnie Gentry officiating.
