Chad A. Smith

Chad A. Smith, age 41, of Morganton and formerly of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville as a result of a motor vehicle accident.  Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on August 12, 1976, he was son of James Ronald Smith of Gray, Tennessee and the late Lovina McMahan Smith.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Welsie and Edna McMahan; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Georgia Smith.

A 1995 graduate of McDowell High School, Chad worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.  He had a love of riding backroads in his Jeep.  Chad was a friend to everyone who met him.

In addition to his father, he is survived by one brother, Tony Smith and his wife, Jaclyn of Gray, Tennessee.; nephews, Dakota and Hunter; special friends, Matt and Kandi Bartlett, Steven and April Banks, Oscar and Tasha Espino, Keith Harris, Keith McCall, Darrin Hollifield and Abby Pittman; and numerous other special friends. 

A service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Allen McKinney officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
