Carroll Roosevelt Wright, a loving father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 91. Having lived his entire life in McDowell County, he was born April 24, 1933 to the late Carmen Carroll Wright and Eva May Jones Wright.
Carroll spent over thirty years working in the textile industry, contributing significantly to the workings of Clinchfield Mill, Beacon Manufacturing, and Cooper Manufacturing, embodying the spirit of hard work that characterized his life. Even after his retirement, he will be remembered for his spirit of hard work that he maintained all the way into his eighties. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his devotion to his loved ones, and he will be remembered fondly as a pillar of strength and support for those around him.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Carroll served from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal. His military service instilled in him values of discipline and loyalty, which resonated throughout his personal and professional life. With an outgoing personality, Carroll had a unique gift for storytelling, captivating those around him with tales that often brought laughter and joy. He had a talent for fixing anything mechanical in nature. He attended Clinchfield Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Howell Wright, who passed away in 2013; one grandson, Cameron Mitchell; and one great-grandson, Aiden Phillips.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Renee W. Whisenant (Steve), Randy Wright (Jodi), and Ricky Wright (Angie); eight grandchildren, Jessica Wright (Matt Phillips), Lauren Imboden (Matt), Jamie Wright (Jacob Souther), Tyler Whisenant (Kelli), Tiffany McKinney (Derek), Cody Ledford, Elaina Mahan, and Joshua Ledford; ten great-grandchildren and one more on the way; two brothers, Frank Wright and Michael Wright; and a special friend, Virginia Mace.
A service in celebration of Carroll’s life will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife. Rev. Terry Roach will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 23, 2025 from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Valor Hospice at the VA Medical Center, Clinchfield Baptist Church, Shriner’s of Greenville, SC, or the Ronald McDonald House of Durham, NC.
