Carroll Dean Medford

     Carroll Dean Medford, 76, of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Charles F. George VA Medical Center in Asheville. 

     Carroll was born in Swain County, NC, on January 26, 1948, to the late Grover Medford and Annie Jane Suttles Medford. He was married to his wife of 19 years, Denise Burgin Medford. Carroll served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was a firearms enthusiast and an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing. He was fan of NASCAR and enjoyed going to classic car shows. Carroll was also very compassionate toward animals. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to make people smile. Most of all, Carroll loved and adored his family. They were the light of his world.

     In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by a daughter, Machelle Medford Grant; two sons in law, Mark Grant and Steve Ford; four sisters, Joyce Waycaster, Bonnie Summey, Virgie Medford, and Margie Medford; and eight brothers, James, Ray, Cecil, Floyd, Coet, Grover Garland, Billy, and Richard Medford.

     He is survived by his wife, Denise Medford; four children, Angelia Clark (Kevin), Janet Medford, Jodi Ford, and James Riddle; a brother, Cledus Medford (Peggy), nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

     A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cherry Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Old Fort. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
