Carroll "Dean" Owensby

Carroll “Dean” Owensby, 80, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Atrium Health Pineville.

A native of Marion, Dean was born October 3, 1942 to the late William Ray Owensby and Margie Octavius Owensby.

Dean, who was also known by many as “Teddy Bear,” was a faithful and active member of Harvest Time Baptist Church. An avid sportsman, Dean loved hunting and fishing. He loved his family and his hunting dogs, but the Lord most of all. Dean had an appreciation for the old-fashioned ways of life that he passed down to his entire family, especially his great talent at making hog sausage. He was an excellent gardener who always shared his crop with others. Dean will be remembered as an honest man who never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Billy Harold Owensby and Shelby Jean Hollifield.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Anthony Owensby; son, Darrin Owensby and his wife Barbara Ann; two grandchildren, Noelle Owensby and Linda Owensby; four siblings, Kenneth Ray Owensby, Sr., Sue Hicks, Judy Holland, and Sandy Mathis; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastors Trent McKeehan and Larry Gentry officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
