Carolyn Duncan, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, departed to be with the Lord on the evening of Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. Her loved ones were by her side. The daughter of the late Coy and Florence Washburn Edwards, she was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on July 1, 1944.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hillard Duncan, who passed away on February 27, 2016.
A true Christian lady who loved the Lord, Carolyn was known to have had a green thumb, enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening and collecting anything that had an owl on it. She was a member of Coxes Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her precious memories are three sons, Mark Duncan and his wife, Donna, C.B. Duncan and his wife, Teresa and John Duncan and his wife, Karen; two brothers, C.B. Edwards and his wife, Maxine and Johnny Edwards and his wife, Linda; and one sister, Jamie Burleson and her companion, Raymond Reid. Carolyn is also survived by her seven loving grandchildren, Dustin, Jeremy, Zachary, Taylor, Kaylan, Coby and Gage; six wonderful great grandchildren, Blayk, Daxtin, Corbin, Keegan, Bryson and Isaiah; and last but not least, her feline partner, “Angel”.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Duncan will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Yancey Street Baptist Church in Marion with Pastor Dean Owenby, Pastor Tim Biddix and Pastor Mark Lawing officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. A private interment will be held at Washburn Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Memorial Campus CICU Unit for the extraordinary care they provided Carolyn and her family during this difficult time.
