Brenda Lee Daniel Mathes, 71, of Old Fort, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
She was born in Buncombe County on September 23, 1952 to the late Charles Daniel and Annie Minnie Montgomery Daniel.
Brenda retired from Baxter Healthcare and most recently worked as a barista in The Catawba Vale Hub Coffee Shop. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Business Science. She remained an advocate for education her whole life. Brenda was a faithful member of Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church. She had a strong faith in her Lord.
Brenda was a very loving person who would do anything for anybody. She was a wonderful mother to her son, and she stepped in as a mother figure to her siblings after the death of their mother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she made sure to spoil them with love and not material things. Brenda was the definition of a strong, independent black woman. She will lovingly be remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Luther Daniel, Teresa Smith, Eunice Daniel, and Brian Christopher Daniel.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan Corey Mathes; four grandchildren, Maximus Mathes, Raven Brickhouse, Rayden Ivy Mathes, and Makinzie Rose Mathes; and siblings, Valorie Hamilton, John Harold Daniel (Christina), Richard Daniel (Mary), Anthony Daniel, Rufus Ray Daniel (Felicia), Marilyn Logan, Tony Daniel (Audrey), Beverly McMillan (Roland), and Travis Daniel (Anna).
