Brenda Hughes

During the early morning hours of Monday, November 25, 2019, Mrs. Brenda McFalls Hughes, age 71 of Old Fort, peacefully departed from this world at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville with her loving family by her side. The daughter of the late S.B. McFalls and Ruby Phyllis Buchanan, she was born in McDowell County on May 16, 1948.

Brenda was a devout member of Brookside Baptist Church in Old Fort where she faithfully served her Lord whom she loved with all of her being. She was an avid camper and especially loved camping with her grandchildren. Brenda was a devoted Army wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Douglas McFalls.

She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory, her husband of fifty-one years, Bobby E. Hughes; two children, Andrea Hughes Parker (Durand) and Angela Dionne Pegram; one brother, Michael McFalls (Connie) and one sister Angie McFalls Shell (Danny). She also leaves behind seven adored grandchildren and sixteen precious great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate the homegoing of Mrs. Brenda will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Toney Vess officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

In Brenda’s memory, everyone in encouraged to wear their finest flip-flops to the service.

A graveside service will be held on Monday December 02, 2019, at 12:00 P.M. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
