Bonnie McEntire, age 77, of Pine Cove Road, Old Fort, surrounded by her family, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Born in Illinois on March 31, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Anna Wright.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of fifty-four years, Dr. Jerrill McEntire; her four children, Ted McEntire and wife Tiffany of Spruce Pine, Alex McEntire and wife Diana of Marion, David McEntire and Traci of Old Fort and Anna Pittman and husband Earl of Old Fort. Also surviving Bonnie are grandchildren, Michael (Jessica), Preston, Austin, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Sydney, Ally, Addison, Sophie, Tucker and Lily; one great-grandson, Carson; and one brother, Al Wright and wife MaryAnn of Villa Park, Illinois. She will also be forever remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and her favorite dog, Sophie.

Bonnie was a graduate of Purdue University and after serving in the Peace Corps in Africa, she moved to North Carolina with her husband Jerrill where she raised her family in Marion. She was a teacher at East McDowell Junior High School and McDowell High School and loved history and her many students. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Bonnie was a true animal lover and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved sports, snow, the beach and trips to Maine. She enjoyed giving far more than receiving.
