Bonnie “Irene” Ward Stockton went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly with her family by her side after suffering injuries from a car accident Wednesday evening on her way to church.
She was the daughter of the late Willard “Dink” Ward and Sudie Hudgins Ward. She was married to the late Bobby Stockton, Sr. for almost 45 years. She said she was still married and celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. She was preceded in death by numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Growing up poor, she learned to be humble and giving. If she had anything that someone else needed, it was theirs. She spent her life loving, giving, and helping others, hoping to teach those attributes to those around her.
Her pride and joy were her earthly and church families. Her son-in-law and daughters-in-law were just as much children to her as the ones she gave birth to. To her grandchildren she was known as “Nownia.”
She was a faithful member of Redeemed Free Will Baptist Church for 35 years, sharing in love, worship, and service to her Savior Jesus Christ.
She is continually loved, greatly missed, and survived by her children, Bonnie Burgin (Danny), Bobby Stockton (Mary), and Eric Stockton (Lacey); her grandchildren, Miranda Burgin, Shaun Stockton, Levi Stockton (Savannah), Chelsea Moore (Derrick), Kylee, Lilly, Ava, and Bristol Stockton, Carrie Benge (Jim) and Alexis Elkins; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her natural sisters, Darlene Stockton and Betty Howard; sister-in-law, Carol Godfrey; brother-in-law, Charles Stockton (Evelyn); her special friend, Linda Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Irene has joyfully joined the love of her life, Bobby, in Heaven and will spend eternity free of tears, pain, and further heartache.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. at Redeemed Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Jerry McClain officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
