Bobby Ray Roland, age 80, while surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his residence in Marion. A native of Yancey County, North Carolina, born December 27, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Vonnie Self Roland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bobby Sue Jones Roland, who passed away on May 10, 1977.
A former member of the Marion Moose Family Center 1705, Bobby enjoyed relaxing by going fishing. Having been self employed for his entire work life, Mr. Roland had done dozing and logging and owned Roland Trucking, but mainly operating Roland Well Drilling.
He is survived by three children, Gary Lee Roland (Judy), Karen Jane Roland and Edward Keith Roland; four brothers, Troy Roland (Betty), Weasle Roland (Inez), Jack Roland and Wayne Roland (Gail). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Bobby will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral with Evangelist John Hutchins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
