Billy Poteat, age 57, of Oak Island, North Carolina and formerly of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born September 08, 1959, he was the son of Shelby Greene of Marion and the late Johnny Poteat.
A loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother; and a wonderful friend to many, Billy enjoyed fishing, building and repairing anything he could for those who needed it. He attended Sunrise Baptist Church in Southport.
Billy is survived by, in addition to his mother, his loving wife, Terri Jobes Poteat; three children, Chase Poteat (Brittany Simmons), Ashley Valero (Mario) and Joseph LaBelle, Jr. (Kelsea); three sisters, Cheryl Wise (Eddie), Donna Ezell and Kim Poteat; one brother, Tim Poteat (Martha); and four grandchildren who he was proud of, Kinslee Poteat, Franchesca Valero, Raelyn Valero and Carson LaBelle. He is also survived by his canine companion, Macy.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Dennis Butner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
