Billy D. Lawing, age 70, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Friday, October 12, 2018 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital as a result of injuries he sustained from a motor vehicle accident. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born July 8, 1948, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margie Penley Lawing.
Billy’s companion of over 30 years, Sharon Tipton Lewis, also passed away just hours prior as a result of injuries she sustained from a motor vehicle accident.
Affectionately known as, “Uncle Bill”, he loved working with wood and tending to his yard. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed playing golf, and was a Duke fan.
Left to cherish his memories are his four children, Michael Dean Lawing of Marion, Billy Roland Lawing (Wanda) of Nebo, Sonya Gladden (John) of Marion and Tonya Lewis of Marion; two sisters, Peggy Lawing Cook of Prince George, Virginia and Betty Lawing Silver (Mike) of Marion; two grandchildren, Erica Whitfield and Leiah Tallent; and four great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Bill will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Bill Mitchell and Mr. Mike Silver officiating. Interment will follow at West Court Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
