Bill Ray Buchanan

     Bill Ray Buchanan, 84, of Marion, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton.

     Bill was born in McDowell County, NC on December 27, 1937, to the late Roy Allen Buchanan and Gladys Silver Buchanan. He was married to his wife of twenty two years, Barbara “Jean” Poteat Buchanan, who passed away in 1993. Bill was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed participating at the McDowell Senior Center. He was a member of Mystic Tie Lodge No. 237 A.F.&A.M. in Marion, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1967. Bill loved his country and was very patriotic. He will be greatly missed.

     Bill is survived by three step children, Brenda Worley and husband Henry, Jeff Moore and wife Charlotte, and Terry Moore, all of Marion; a sister, Gail Hall of Marion; a brother, Fred Buchanan of Lenoir; six step grandchildren; and sixteen step great grandchildren.

     A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at McDowell Memorial Park. Mr. Paul Baker will officiate.

     Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
