Betty Louise Rutherford

January 16, 1949 — August 24, 2019

Betty Louise Brown Rutherford, age 70, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Carolinas HealthCare System-Blue Ridge in Morganton.  The daughter of the late Guy and Louise Shaw Brown, she was born in McDowell County on January 16, 1949. 

 

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Brown Long; and one brother-in-law, Dwight Long.

 

Following more than 30 years, Betty retired from Drexel Heritage.  Having never met a stranger, she always had a word of encouragement and would let you know just how much she loved and cared for you.  Betty enjoyed traveling, especially on a cruise, cooking and singing.  A member of Addie’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Marion, she was also a member of the kitchen committee, Usher Board, and treasurer of the Prayze choir.

 

Left to cherish her precious memories are her husband, Kenneth Eugene Rutherford Sr, two daughters, Sonya Brown and Vanessa Brown (Anthony); one son, Gregory Brown; four step children, Peggy Chambers (Wallace), Patsy Parks, Sheila Rutherford and Kenneth Rutherford, Jr. (Celika); three sisters, Gracie Jackson, Dorothy Johnson (Harvey) and Sarah Fowler (Elledge): and three brothers, Guy Brown Jr., Kenneth Brown, (Thelma) and Fredrick Brown.  She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Akendra, Christopher, Darian, Brian, Chazman, Jalan, Jordan, Aundraia, and A’mira; six great grandchildren, Malaia, Alliyah, Alivia, Colton, Tre’von, Brian Jr, and one on the way; eleven step grandchildren, twelve step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Addie’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Pegues and Rev. Renee Shade officiating.  Interment will follow at Corpening Chapel A M E Church Cemetery in Morganton, North Carolina.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
