Betty Jo Pyatt Roland, age 77, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of McDowell County, Betty was born on July 23, 1941 to the late Raymond and Ruby Russell Pyatt.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Pyatt; one sister, Myrtle Sue Bradley and her faithful dog Toby.
Betty was a member of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting and quilting. She was known as a wonderful cook and made the best oatmeal cookies. Betty loved her family, who thought she was the best wife, mother and grandmother in the world.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of fifty-eight years, Troy Lee Roland; three children, Donnie Roland (Amie), JoAnne Sherman and Roy Lee Roland and one sister, Katherine Buchanan. Also surviving Betty are six grandchildren, Mark Lamb, Matt Lamb (Stacy), Sierra Wylie (Tory), Chelsea Sherman (Lorenzo Kennedy), Austin Roland (Sierra) and Travis Sherman and five great-grandchildren, Addalynn, Ryker, Camden “Peanut”, Reagan and Mason and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will take place on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Beam Funeral Service with Reverend Donald Justice officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place following the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
