Betty Lou Davis Padgett, affectionately known as "Betty Lou" by her friends and family, of the Pleasant Gardens Community, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Greens of Spruce Pine, at the age of 79.
Born in Rutherford County, August 2, 1944, she was the daughter of Charles and Nora Buchanan Davis.
She was a graduate of Pleasant Gardens School and Mars Hill College. She was a licensed Real Estate Broker and Manger of Blue Ridge Terrace Apartments for 30 years.
She was an entrepreneur at heart and dabbled in many businesses with her husband of 54 years, Jerry Padgett. They ventured together on several housing projects and worked together daily at Blue Ridge Terrace where they found their true passion for helping others. Betty was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church for 60 years and served as Sunday School Teacher and Administrative Assistant. In her spare time, she enjoyed home remodeling, and helping others.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry “Jody” Padgett (Kelly) and Matthew Padgett (Emily); two grandchildren, Devon Padgett and Amelia Padgett; two brothers, Jackie Davis (Isabella) and Donnie “Buster” Davis; and two sisters, Palmer Hensley (Ron) and Rachael Queen.
Her family of brothers and sisters were those she cherished most, maintaining ties sometimes over thousands of miles and being the glue that held it all together.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
