In the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 29, 2016 while surrounded by her family, Betty Lou Whitaker Hunt, age 74, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away at her residence. A native of Black Mountain, North Carolina, born July 22, 1941, she was the daughter of the late George A. Whitaker and Mildred Leona Landing Whitaker.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Betty, at the age of 59, received an associate’s degree in Business Administration from McDowell Technical Community College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She was a member of Glory to God Baptist Church in Marion.
Betty is survived by her five children, Donna T. Killough (Jackie), Kathy Kilby, Lee Burnette Todd, Jr. “Buddy” (Marsha Anderson), Albert Jeffery Todd (Lacy) and M. Melissa Todd (Phillip Hughes); two sisters, Leona A. Ammons and Gloria E. Gass (James). She is also survived by her seven loving grandchildren, Darrell Hunt, Chris Hunt (Brandi), Ashley Boone (Brandon), Chasity Johnson, Codey Gibbs, Jessica Gibbs and Caleb Sawyer; and four great grandchildren, Myka Hunt, Gage Hunt, Anna Hunt and Trinidy Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 01, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals, 208 West State Street in Black Mountain. Interment will follow at Whitaker Cemetery in Barnardsville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home in Black Mountain.
