Betty Jean Hughes Freshour

Betty Jean Hughes Freshour, 80, of Marion, passed away at Mission Memorial in Asheville on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Jean was born in Yancey County on September 16, 1943 to the late Russell Hughes and the late Pansy Wallace Hughes. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Freshour, a son, Marcus Freshour and a grandson, Joshua Freshour.

Jean was known as a hard worker and was the former owner of Freshours Market. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and walking in the woods. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory is a son, Rusty Freshour (April); a daughter, Pam Freshour; two brothers, Herman Hughes (Wanda), and Buster Hughes (Jane); her twin sister, Doris Frisbee (Bruce); four grandchildren, Natasha Freshour, Brittany Freshour, Russell Freshour and Jonathan Freshour and three great grandchildren, Samuel Hollifield, Gabriel Freshour and Legend Freshour.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at 1640 Henry McCall Road, Marion, NC 28752
