Betty Ann Hensley Bowman, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on the night of Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Rose Hill Retirement Community while surrounded by her loved ones. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on September 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle Lamb Hensley.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Bryant Bowman, Sr.; one son, Claude Lee Bowman; and one granddaughter, Sarah Potter.
A faithful member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church, Betty had retired as the assistant clerk of court. She enjoyed puzzles, shopping and had a love for popcorn. Betty had a passion for playing the piano, she enjoyed painting, square dancing with her husband, Sam, but most of all, spending quality time with her family, especially her “grandkids”.
Left to cherish her precious memories, she is survived by four children, Ann James (Dwight), Jo Potter, Jean Finley (Randy) and Sam Bowman (Sharon); six grandchildren, Eric Potter, Nick Finley, Richard Finley, Bridget Lewis, Chelsea Krause and Geoffrey James; and four great grandchildren, Destiny, Hunter, Daniel and Braxton.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Bowman will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church with Rev. Diane Brooks and Mr. Randy Finley officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
