Bessie Wyatt

Bessie Byrd Wyatt, age 91, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at her residence with her loving family by her side. A native of Yancey County, Bessie was born on June 6, 1926 to the late Wilk and Mae Styles McMahan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jessie Byrd and second husband Kester Wyatt.

Bessie was a former member of Trinity Hill Baptist Church. She loved people and was known to be a friend to everyone. She loved cooking, crocheting and helping tend to those in need. Known to have a green thumb, Bessie enjoyed gardening and flowers. But above all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memories are one son, Richard Byrd (Agnes); one brother, Charlie McMahan; four sisters, Evelyn Dalton, Ruth Epley, Lettie Hoglen and Sally Phillips. Also surviving Bessie is her granddaughter, Lisa Byrd.

A funeral service to celebrate Bessie’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Reverend Charles Dicks officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church cemetery.
