Beatrice “Elaine” Snypes, 68, of Greensboro, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
Elaine was born in McDowell County on September 20, 1956 to the late Robert Snypes and Beatrice Fox Snypes. She was also preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Mabel and Dewey James.
She was a 1974 graduate of McDowell High School and graduated from Western Carolina University in 1977. For a brief time after college, she worked at the Southmountain Children’s Home and later was employed for the Department of Social Services in Union County. It was after this that Elaine decided to go back to school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to obtain a law degree. Known as a very intelligent individual, Elaine graduated with honors everywhere she went, and she even graduated fourth in her class at UNC. She then moved to Washington, D.C. where she was employed as an Administrative Law Judge for the National Labor Relations Board for over 25 years. Elaine was an avid reader, and she enjoyed traveling when she was able.
She is survived by her brother, Alan Snypes (Wendy); two nieces, Ashley Snypes (Ty) and Courtney Moore (Cody); and great-niece and great nephew, Collins and Cooper Moore.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Nebo First Baptist Church Cemetery.
