Baxter Woodrow Stafford, a beloved member of his community, was born on October 14, 1939, in McDowell County. He peacefully went to be with the Lord at his residence on January 17, 2025, at the age of 85.
Baxter was not only a lifelong member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church but also a cherished family man who dedicated his life to both his faith and his loved ones. He is fondly remembered by his daughter, Tammy Wise and her husband David; his brother, Tommy Stafford; and his grandsons, Myron Wise and his wife Maile, Blake Wise and his fiancé Emily, and Jennifer Smith Wise and her husband Eric. Baxter also took immense pride in his great-grandchildren, Landry Wise, Rylan Wise, and Joseph Woods Wise, who is on the way.
Baxter was passionate about his hobbies, finding joy in trips to the trade lot and the excitement of both NFL and college football games. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandsons perform country music and embraced every moment spent with his family. Music was an important part of his life, with country music holding a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Revis Stafford, who he described as the love of his life, as well as two sisters and his parents, Woodrow Stafford and Ruby Ferguson Stafford.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM with Reverend Wayne Miller officiating along with multiple family members adding eulogies at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory, located at 2170 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752. Baxter's remarkable life and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
