Barbara Jean Conner Wilson, age 82, of the Sugar Hill Community, departed to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. The daughter of the late Melrose and Estelle Epley Conner, she was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina on April 06, 1937.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wilson.
Barbara worked at Old Fort Finishing up until it closed and retired from Quaker Meadows in Morganton. She went back to school and not only earned her GED, but she also received an associate’s degree in early childhood development. She proudly worked at both First Methodist Church of Marion and First Baptist Church of Marion in the daycare centers.
Barbara enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid gardener, working with flowers, and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially wild and domesticated birds. A member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church, she loved to visit the beach, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her three daughters, Gail Wilson Bailey, Linda Wilson Beam (Joseph), Rhonda Wilson Messer; four grandchildren, Chad Bailey (Cheneil), Jake Beam, Nikki Beam Hoskins (David) and Sydney Messer (Paul Olson); and five great grandchildren, Colby and Caydence Bailey; Knox, Draya and Cru Hoskins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
