Barbara Allison, age 83, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the John F. Keever Solace Center with her loving family by her side. A native of McDowell County, Barbara was born on May 29, 1934 to the late Otis Ralph and Myrtle Harklerode Fender.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband Floyd W. Allison who passed away February 2, 2012 and her brother, Dean Fender.
Barbara was a longtime member of Clinchfield United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities. Her love and heart were truly for missions. She was a former owner of Allison’s Café. She taught porcelain doll making and basket weaving through McDowell Technical Community College. She loved to cook and was known for her fried pies. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Vickie Hutcherson (Ken) of Nebo and Renee Freeman of Marion. Also surviving Mrs. Allison are three grandchildren, Amber Biddix (Derek), Shane Freeman (Ashley) and Kendra Hutcherson; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Bradley, Riley, Grayson and Kaden; one great-great grandson, Braxston and one special daughter, Kim Williams.
A funeral service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Clinchfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Mathews officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at McDowell Memorial Park.
