Athala Virginia Hemphill

Athala Virginia Conner Hemphill, age 93, of Union Mills, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of Rutherford County, Athala was born on July 1, 1926 to the late Jim and Raye Harris Conner.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Don Hemphill and eight of her siblings.

Athala was a member of Spencer Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her life was her husband and family of whom she took great care. Athala was a wonderful cook and enjoyed farming with her husband Don.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Donna Robbins (Rodney); one grandson, James Robbins and one great-granddaughter, Sadie Grace Robbins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Montford Cove Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Bruce Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.
